there a bling one for sale in Chudleigh Knighton by a Jim ....? Its on the DTrf forum. I like the the look limited tinternet research suggests enduor based not MX, 5 gears not six, kicker and button, nice bike... Valves wear out.....really? Or is that racer view....anyway if anyone had knowledge of such machine I'd appreciate sharing....I like the Katoom 400 power delivery rode a 450 Katoom n didn't like it Honda sounds like a tractable power band....
John thinks it's a beast .... He rides a Katoom 450 n makes it look a piece of calm tranquil warm water ... I suspect that's enough information cheers Hugh.

Lots to consider, is the fully street legal version with full lighting, horn, speedo etc?
Supamoto'd = walk away, having a bike that will out handle any sports bike yet only have five gears one piston and 55hp will be ridden to the rev limiter and beyond.
Ref Supemotod ...I know the chap, I think, from my early yoof. I have confidence it will be a good example of the marque. It's just whether or not it's a good bike for me on the lanes.
Too fierce Tim. You learnt me that about them....or was it Cackle head who gave up trail riding n took up knitting comfort blankets n riding a Ladyboy as a result of being WrF 'd n spraining his winkle

Hush now HM. Thanks to John (cheers Hugh) I now appreciate that there is a difference between a 450r and 450x n it seems x rated may be delivering a power more suited to me. I'm pretty sure I know the seller, as a mate, from Pellew Way in Tinmuff some thirty some years ago...that would be weird In a good way. Only way to know is to go n try it.
Ive been hankering after a Supemoto Katoom from 2000- 2002 but they always sell for too much money for a 14 year old bike N (for reasons alluded earlier in thread by the man who knows). Hence a 2011 Honda, owned n maintained by someone I knew back in the day, and fitted with spanky bits appeals. The Katoom will remain the main laning tool. The Honda for hooning until the Katoom breaks...
So not a bike you regret selling....nor miss as a laner ..... And seemingly quite some depreciation compared to Smoto KtM from 200-2002.....plan a sounds like a better plan...
You would be better off buying a CCM R30 or similar if you want cheap. Also Yamaha XT660 supermoto would be reliable and built for the job rather than an MX convert.

Any converted style supermoto is going to be likely to be knackered, they are not built for sustained high speeds and quality is unlikely to be the factor that will let you down, however some are better than others and lend themselves to road use better.
I quite fancied a KTM690SM, but alas they are apparently unreliable and have problems with wiring and relays and engines blowing up, pistons, mains and big end sort of thing.
The XT 650X is built for it, the KLR and earlier KLX 650's have also been given the moto treatment. Anything smaller is just going to trash the engine quite quick.

Btw the KLX450 or smaller 250 are more suited to road use than most. In the USA they actually had a KLX250 Supermoto model butnot sold here I think. See plenty of these used as commuters and as weekend warriors on the trails.
You could alway get a DRZ400SM lol.

Well good luck with that. Lightweight SM's appeal but you need deep pockets to meet the engine repair bills.
Also having a 17" wheel upfront when a 21" was original upsets the geometry quite a bit making counter steering a must rather than a novelty from what I understand riding a supermoto is a completely different riding skill set.

If it's wheelie practise, then a 450 enduro bike with road wheels will do the trick and be fun for about an hour. I'd tend to agree with FBF here - get a bike that was designed to be a SM in the first place. XT660 if you plan on going further than the edges of Torbay, or something like a Husky 710. They did do a 450 and 510 SM based on their enduro bikes.......and Paul will attest to how feisty the engines are
I loved the look of the original 950SM that KTM built, but that may be too big for what you want.
All I want is spare Katoom to keep the much beloved Katoom going - so might as well get one with Smoto wheels to have a little fun with locally. I mean I expect it will have the same number plate n everything as the Enduro....just a reserve spare bike as they are getting harder to find and have depreciated (it seems) as much as they ever will so it's a long term keep the Katoom rumbling along plan rather than specifically I want a supermoto.
I hope this clarifies and satisfies.
I'm going to lie down in darkened room and chant mantras now.....or make a quiche.
