given that Triggers Katoom was looking distinctly old n slightly battered during last weekends wee bimble I was having a look at and noted Thor have a new batch of X Trainers in .... Pre mix 2t appeals blingy red frame too. Imagine my disgust to note there is no kickstart ..... leccy only have they learnt nowt from the Freeride Foibles...
no need for a kick start on these the eclekly dont break
Tell that to Jason. His new EXC300 doesn't like the button.
i realise that a precious few amongst will have noticed the metamorphosis Tim is undertaking now that the Omertà witness protection programme has lost its funding. I like the fact that a former Mafioso Don chooses to ride out with us n even more he diverts attention with excellent Videos whilst trying to be Leonardo da Vinci's favoured pupil. I could just be writing bollocks. I would want a kickstart option on any bike, be it a Beta or a KTM or turning Japanses....
So Don Timeone, Cystine chapel ceiling or tossers without crossers n a nice attitude getting dirty.
Explain the 15th Century Renaissance of art .... Mona Lisa? How did you paint that woman without a wry smile?
Quite. I do like your observations Headboy. Perhaps an A- and a quick Christmas dickyback ride around my study would be in order.
On a heavier note, you could probably get an uprated battery and keep the bike on an Optimatey. My sheep botherer was kickerless but never failed to start (once I'd worked out the choke was never on when trying to start it from cold).
It would be a shame to avoid a lovely modern machine simply because of a misplaced penchant for an eight inch steel shaft.

Well thank you HM. You have a study? Dickyback n Renaissance art feels more of a Haywain n Constable period of time ?
Never thee mind you .....indeed the history of art is very much more agreeable as I mature. Now I know you are Leonardo da Vinci the Film maker in the 21st century I agree with your observations LDV, I suspect the shaft will be Aluminium and btw always warmer to the touch than steel. Martenistic molecular bonds perhaps....Nevertheless, to be stranded powerless, on a new blingy bike without a kicker....well that would be unforgivable.
Here you go me old chum..... But this dose make the bike abit closer to the 250 2T price so why wouldn't you just get one of them and turn the power valve right down!!!!
My Husky 450te was leccy only and never failed to start, it was a bitch when cold and needed a lot of cranking to fire it up but it would get there. Hot it usually started with one short touch. Always a bit disconcerting not having the option, bump start is possible but on a big single 4t you would struggle on dirt. Being a two stroke it will have a lot less compression than a 4T and far easier to bump should you have to. Option apparently available for a kick start on the Beta but really you should not need it. At worse you could always carry some flimsy short jump leads, just in case.
The KTM 250r freeride is an option but are more likely to break than the Beta by all accounts. The battery on the KTMs are lithium for light weight not sure what the beta has, apparently from cold it is best to crank it over a few times, let it rest a while and then crank again as the battery needs to warm through from the initial start.
The ktm's are available 0% finance, the beta are always in short supply as only a small factory so don't expect any offers like that. Parts are more difficult but when I was at Thor a while back he seemed to stock most stuff you were likely to need.
Was thinking about a dirt bike again just to play on now and then, with the weather I have not been able to road ride as it has rained constant and it is a fecker, justifying the expense has put me off and not knowing the final cost of the garage conversion has stopped me thus far but now I am seeing some light at the end of the tunnel I think I may take the plunge again in the new year.
My impression of the Beta was well built but the red plastic looks kind of toy like compared to a Honda I would thinkit would scratch up quick and the graphics will wear as well but other than that they look the part.
Downside with a 2t is fuel consumption is heavier but given the distances normally covered I reckon not enough to worry about. One thing if you drown it you are far less likely to end up with a mashed/ cracked piston or bent conrod and you get oddles of low end torque, more so with the x trail or 2t freeride as they have been setup that way more for torque and low end with still and midrange rush which you don't get from a 400ktm or similar as they are quite flat in comparison.
If you fancy a jaunt to have a look give me a call, not the easiest place to find without a sat nav, I was on the bike last time and took half an hour to find the right road without the nav and my phone at the time didn't map either lol.

Can do mate. Got to drop some bags of ballast to the garage first but that will not take long and can do that early and come round to you next.
One thing to check with Thor is that they actually have one there, they are feckers for saying they have bikes available from stock but haven't actually got them. They were supposed to have the AJP range of bikes but had only the 250. They did have several Beta's though

Paul. Bring your crash helmet n riding gear. My current state of mind is to eat a shed load of mushrooms take the roof down on the car fill you in on attorneys mindset n test ride the MV Agusta whilst in the locale. i expect sun will shine Beta bonuses. Ps Any good drugs yourself!
In a strange echo of a Sam HBs post yer man at Thor said they are mapping the 250 to make it deliver power like the cross trainer they are also providing power valve spanner. Oh and they have sold out of crosstrainers until March and they have sold more than anyone else in the uk and never had a start issue and you'd only want a kicker if you had a KTM oh n finally betas are great n KTMs are ****e etc etc.
